Letter from Social Security Scotland Chief Executive – Carer Support Payment

Please see bellow letter from David Wallace, Chief Executive Social Security Scotland

You may remember, I wrote to you back in November to let you know that Social Security
Scotland had launched the first phase of the pilot for Carer Support Payment in Perth an
Kinross, Dundee and Na h’Eileanan Siar (Western Isles).

Carer Support Payment is Scotland’s replacement for Carer’s Allowance which is currently
administered by the Department for Work and Pensions.

In February, we launched the case transfer process nationally in Scotland for those
receiving Carer’s Allowance. This means individuals currently receiving this form of support
do not need to apply for Carer Support Payment. Their award will automatically transfer to
Social Security Scotland, and carers will receive a letter telling them when their award will
transfer.

Draft amendment regulations have now been laid which, with the approval of the Scottish
Parliament, will make Carer Support Payment available for new applications from June and
across Scotland in November this year. In light of this, I wanted to share with you when we
plan for Carer Support Payment to be open for applications in your Local Authority:

24 June 2024Angus, North Lanarkshire and South
Lanarkshire
19 August 2024Fife, Moray, Aberdeen City,
Aberdeenshire, East Ayrshire, South
Ayrshire and North Ayrshire
4 November 2024All remaining Local Authorities

As the benefit launches in each Local Authority, we will continue engaging with
organisations supporting carers and their families.

We will continue to communicate our messages through our social media channels
@SocSecScot on X (formerly Twitter) and Social Security Scotland on Facebook and would
appreciate if you were able to share these posts through your existing communication
channels.

In addition to this, several resources are available via MyGov and Social Security Scotland’s
corporate website.

Thank you for your support in promoting our benefits to date and we would appreciate if you
could share this information with your teams. We look forward to continuing to work with you
in the future.
